YOUNG, LESTER age 85, of Dallas passed away on Jan. 16, 2014.
Les was born in Dallas to Walter Dowell Young and Lucille Alberta Young on Sept.15,1928 He went to school at Crozier Tech in downtown Dallas. He met a young girl with blonde curls and rolled up blue jeans, and soon married the love of his life, Geraldine, on Nov. 17, 1946. He was a Deputy Sheriff under the famed Dallas County sheriff, Bill Decker, for twenty years. Lester left law enforcement and entered the private sector of Dallas business in 1960 when he built and operated the first "super sized" roller skating rink in the city. He was never content to be tied to only one pursuit, so he dabbled in real estate as well as starting his own commercial sweeping business, until he retired into his true calling of being a grandfather and great-grandfather to a gaggle of goosey girls and a baby boy that have brought joy to all that know them.
Lester is preceded in death by his parents, Lucille and Walter; brothers, Clifford, Mack, Eugene; his twin, Leslie, and his younger son, David Bryan Young.
Les is survived by Geraldine Young, Lester Bruce Young and his wife Kathy. He is survived by three granddaughters, Aimѐe Suzanne Harl and her husband, Casey, Amanda Lynn Cantrell and her husband, Scott, and Leslie Ann Cooper, as well as five great-grandchildren, Linda, Cynthia, and Casѐe Harl, Zoē Cooper, and Travis James Tovar.
Lester was quick to smile, slow to anger, and totally devoted to his wife and family. He had a positive outlook on life, and when asked how he was doing, he answered with a smile, "Here, prayerful, and careful. What careful don't cover, prayerful will."
Lester will be missed by friends, neighbors, and care-givers but most acutely, he will be missed by his family and his beloved wife. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Restland Funeral Home. Services will be at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at Restland Wildwood Chapel.
